For Urban Nerd Kulture (or F.U.N.K) was born out of a passion for creating inclusive spaces that celebrate the intersection of urban culture and nerd fandom. Our journey began with H.A.G Entertainment Inc., our sister company, which initially started as an online community known as “The Official Hip-Hop/Anime/Gaming Community” on Facebook. This community quickly grew into a vibrant hub where enthusiasts of hip-hop, anime, and gaming could come together, share their passions, and feel represented.
Realizing the need for physical spaces that echoed the inclusivity of our online community, we started hosting events under H.A.G Entertainment. Our flagship event series, Blerd Bash, gained recognition and coverage from major press outlets like Sweety High and Black Enterprise, affirming the demand for spaces where urban nerd culture could thrive. As we traveled the country, hosting our events and attending anime, gaming, and comic conventions, we noticed a significant gap in the diversity of merchandise available for these fandoms. It was clear that the market was missing something important, and For Urban Nerd Kulture was born to fill that void.
At F.U.N.K, we’re more than just a brand; we’re a statement in the world of fashion. As a black-owned small business run by a dynamic couple, we’ve poured our hearts into every design and venture. In 2020 and 2021, my partner and I both took the leap into full-time entrepreneurship, leaving our jobs to pursue our passion through our first company, H.A.G Entertainment. It’s been a whirlwind of activity ever since, and we feel truly blessed by the positive reception our businesses have received. What started as a dream has grown into something much bigger with the launch of F.U.N.K, where we continue to channel our creativity, experience, and determination into building a brand that celebrates who we are and the cultures we love.
Entrepreneurship is at the core of everything we do, and we’re passionate about supporting others on their journeys. Through our online communities like The Official Hip-Hop/Anime/Gaming Community and Blerd Business Network, our in-person events with H.A.G Entertainment, and our professional services with Urbani Studios, we provide platforms and opportunities for other entrepreneurs to thrive. We believe in empowering artists, small businesses, and creatives by offering resources, collaboration opportunities, and a network of like-minded individuals who share our commitment to representation and innovation in the pop culture space.
Today, we tour the country hosting events and gaming tournaments under H.A.G Entertainment, while attending conventions and organizing pop-ups under F.U.N.K.
